Adaptability is key

When you invite growth, you have to accept everything that comes with it.

When India opened its economy and welcomed MNCs, prosperity started to grow.

Lives got better.

Employment opportunities increased.

Many children from rural India started going abroad to different countries.

Standards of living improved.

Affordability increased.

Jobs became more available.

We all welcomed these positives.

But along with growth came changes that many of us didn’t pay enough attention to.

Lives got better — but health also took a toll.

Hospitals and doctors benefited.

Employment opportunities increased — but nuclear families and self-centered behavior also became more common.

Standards of living improved — but the cost of living also reached the sky.

Affordability increased — but expensive schools and healthcare became part of our lives.

Jobs increased — but layoffs also became part of the corporate culture.

So, my point is: Why cry when you lose a job?

Our parents taught us frugal living and saving more.

We chose EMI living.

Earlier, people preferred government jobs for stability.

We chose opportunities that offered more money and faster growth.

Our parents bought things after saving enough.

We buy what we want on loans.

When we changed, why blame companies for changing too?

Companies run businesses. When business slows down, they reduce costs. Layoffs are one of the consequences of that business reality.

We may not like it. We may question how it is handled. But we should also understand the environment we helped create and the choices we made as consumers and professionals.

Growth brings opportunities.

Growth also brings uncertainty.

Live with facts.

Live for tomorrow.

Live with happiness.

And most importantly, be prepared for change.
